[Lesson 1] Why watercolors? And who are they for?
I’m pretty sure that if you like (LOVE) watercolors you don’t need to get someone to tell you why you should care about them, or if you are a good fit for them or not.
I didn’t need that.
I just enrolled in the optional class called watercolor basics at the first opportunity I had – when I was in college. That was my very first official approach to watercolors (I did have a set when I was six, but I guess that doesn’t count :P), and I LOVED every single Tuesday from 9 to 10 am during that semester – I didn’t care that I had to take the class on another campus.
That hour was glorious despite I was just learning the basics! – Color wheels, working with sepia, and creating some weird landscapes (yeah, I loved that class even when it wasn’t related to fashion!)
So, watercolors are for passionate people, who want to create authentic work (because watercolors is the most authentic media I’ve been able to work with, it defines its own paths, and it gives you outcomes that no other media can). But, you can only create authentic work with watercolors if your heart is craving to work with them.
I know from experience that the most successful work I create is the one that I enjoy creating – that I love every aspect of the process. And that work, for me, is made with watercolors.
Watercolors are for persons who enjoy flow and are happy to let themselves and their minds flow while they work. They are for people who don’t care about perfect but aim for genuine.
Watercolors have a free spirit within, and they are for you if you want to explore and find your own free spirit through your work. The flaws are not flaws when you work with watercolors; they become something that makes them special.
So, what do you say are watercolors for you?
I’m pretty sure you already LOVE watercolors, and that you’ve already said yes to them, because you signed up to this FREE series! Yay!
Tomorrow, you’ll see how to get prepared to use your watercolors 🙂
Love!
