[Bonus Lesson 2] Skin Tones with Watercolors
You don’t have to use the flesh tone on your watercolor set to paint the skin of your fashion illustrations.
Actually, you better avoid using that color directly from the tube because it looks fake and makes your illustrations look weird. It looks so much better and natural when you mix it with other colors from your watercolor set.
Welcome back to the challenge WaterColor Study from your course Watercolors for Fashion Illustration.
You did some exploration last week figuring out all the colors you can create with your set, and today you’ll create a color chart for all the skin tones you’re able to create – including the tints that can come from them. You’ll take a look at the color chart you made in the last lesson, and you’ll part from there.
Before Starting
To have a perfect learning-practice day, make sure you are ready:
- Gather all your materials, and set them in your favorite place to work with watercolors. Check out the materials list for this lesson below the video.
- Download and print the grid and skin tones cheat-sheet I created for you.
- Please note that the following video takes as example the creation of the skin tones color chart, but you can use the same process for the next two lessons (Bonus Lesson 3 Hair Colors, and Bonus Lesson 4 Your Favorite Colors of All)
- Before getting started with the real work, you need to revise the color charts you created during the last lesson and pick the colors that look like skin. For that, you can refer to the graphic included in your printable PDF.
- Play your favorite music, and now you’re ready!
